Fogo volcano - the only active one of the Cape verdian islands

According to the legend, God created the world and threw the handful of remaining land in the Atlantic, which gave birth to the islands of Cape Verde, isolated and uninhabited. From a scientific point of view, Cape Verde is formed by a succession of volcanic episodes. The landscapes of flat islands, as Maio, Boavista Sal or even, let assume the geological origins. But Fogo is the only island still housing an active volcano, the Pico de Fogo, the highest point of the island (2829 m). The last eruptions dating from 1951 and 1995 have left around a moonscape of lava and ash dried.
